String Wound Filter Cartridge / Element
String Wound Filter Cartridges (also known as “Elements”) are used primarily for liquid filtration, including:
Applications – Alcohols, Alkalis, Caustic Soda, Citric Acid Hydrocarbons, Demineralized Water, Dilute Acid, Distilled Water, Ethyl Alcohol, Fatty Acid Beverages, Ferric Hydroxide, Flowback Water, Frac Water, Hydrocarbons, Mineral Acids, Nitric Acid, Oils, Organic Acids, Organic Solvents, Oxalic Acid, Oxidizing Agents, Petroleum, Phosphoric Acid, Photographic Solutions, Planting Solutions, Potable Water, Pre-Membrane Filtration, Pre-Reverse Osmosis Filtration, Pre-RO Filtration, Refinery Coke, Refinery Coking, Salt Water, Sodium Cyanide, Strong Acid, Vegetable Oils, Water, Zinc Chloride and any other liquid mixture requiring solids separation… there is a string wound filter media (yarn) that can be matched to any filtration application / environment.
Industries / Markets that utilize this string wound filter technology include: Chemical Processing, Coating, Commercial, Desalination, Electronics, Food & Beverage, Industrial, Municipal, Oil & Gas, Petroleum Refinery, Pharmaceutical, Photo Emulsions, Photo Processing, Plating, Potable Water, Power Generation, Process Water, Produced Water, Pulp & Paper, Residential, Waste Water, Water Treatment and the many other industries requiring the separation of solids from whatever solution that requiring dilution or purification.
String wound filters are primarily manufactured using the following core materials: Polypropylene, Tin Plated Steel, 304 Stainless Steel & 316 Stainless Steel… cores are also available in a variety of other materials to meet the requirements of more challenging filtration & separation environments, such as PVDF, Teflon, Nylon, Glass Filled among others that could require special consideration to handle the solution being filtered and the environment of the filtration application.
Just as with the options available in core selection, the string wound filtration media (aka yarn) is available in a myriad of options to meet any filtration application including: Natural Cotton, Bleached Cotton (available in FDA Compliance), Polypropylene (also available in FDA Compliance), Fibrillated Polypropylene, Nylon, Rayon, Polyester, Fiberglass. These filter medias are selected based on there effectiveness in handling the specific application, based on compatibility, durability and temperature consideration among other criteria.
String wound filters are produced utilizing innovative tools, state-of-the-art winding equipment, and modern techniques with a high speed, continuous wind process. Through this string wound process, a superior one-piece filter featuring specifically designed diamond-shaped patterns will be created through which the mixture to be filtered is flowed through and particles (aka particulates) are filtered out / captured at a pre-determined size (generally measure in microns).
The high particulate holding capacity of the string wound filter cartridge, along with it’s low cost, is a major reason this product is so widely accepted by the entire filtration industry. Due to its density and structure, the particle holding capacity is really high, while the media migration is extremely low. Regardless of the nature of the particle distribution of the impurities or contaminants, the string wound ilter cartridge will filter them out efficiently.
Unlike pleated filter elements that are known and more trusted for their absolute rating, string wound filter cartridges generally offer nominal depth filtration ratings. Where absolute ratings are generally measured in the high 90 percentiles of particulate capture, nominal ratings are usually measure in the mid 80 to low 90 percentiles.
Another important feature of the string wound filter cartridge is its durability. These elements will last longer than most other sediment filters. These cartridges will definitely serve you for an extended period of time as they are designed to load completely from inside out (aka depth filter cartridge). Offering you little equipment downtime, prolonged life, while also saving on materials and labor cost.
